Team Jak has been set up to realise Jak Trueman’s dreams to support young cancer patients and their families and those with other debilitating illnesses while bringing the community closer together through a purpose built building – Jak’s Den.
We will offer individual support services to the young person through Play Therapy, Music, Art, Drop-In and support sessions at Jak’s Den.
We will provide families with the help they need to care for young patients and themselves.
Jak’s Den will create the space and opportunities for the young person to have the “moments” they want and if we can’t we will try to take the “moments” to them either in hospital or at home.
We will support bereaved families and friends through one to one support and counselling and support groups and sessions for children teens and parents/carers.
We will ensure our young people’s stay in hospital is as comfortable as possible by providing various items at the request of the Ward Sister in Edinburgh and Glasgow including snacks drinks and games toys and goodie bags.
We will continue to highlight the need for Blood and Bone Marrow Donors and will arrange and support various recruitment events in support of Bloodwise, Scotblood, Anthony Nolan and Delete Blood Cancer UK.
We will, through time, provide inspirational speakers for events, schools and businesses and by highlighting the Aims and Objectives of Team Jak we aim to not only raise awareness of the above causes but also develop good citizenship skills through providing opportunities for fundraising and volunteering, and also raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of Childhood Cancer and how best to support people going through it using Jak’s Story as inspiration.
